Vincent van Gogh

Vincent Willem van Gogh

Vincent van Gogh was born in the Netherlands  in 1853 and was a dutch artist. He is one of the most famous and influential figures in Western art history. In just over ten years he painted around 2,100 paintings and drawings, including 860 oil paintings, most of them in the last two years of his life. These include landscapes, still life's  portraits, and self-portraits. He started painting at a young age. His early works usually consisted of still life's and depictions of working peasants, without the vivid colors that characterized his later works. Van Gogh, whose reputation has grown since the 20th century, symbolized the romantic, suffering artist ideal.

The Starry Night

Some of his works:

Café Terrace at Night (1888)
The Yellow House (1888)
At Eternity's Gate (1890)

As his work evolved, he pursued a new approach to still life and local landscape. He began to use lighter colors in his paintings and developed a distinctive style that he later mastered in Arles, where he stayed in southern France. in 1888. During this time olive trees, cypresses, wheat fields and sunflowers began to be the subject of his paintings.
